Kamiakin boys, Richland girls win first CBL district titles

WENATCHEE -- The Kamiakin boys won the inaugural CBL 3A district title and the Richland girls edged Walla Walla by four points to win the CBL 4A title at Walla Walla Point Park.

After the girls races were held in calm conditions, the wind picked up just before the start of the 3A boys race. Southridge sophomore Andrew Gonzales passed Kamiakin\'s Brad Young with 100 meters left to win the race in 16 minutes, 36 seconds, but the Braves totaled 57 points to Hanford\'s 69.

\"We were looking for a little better score, but it ended up being a pretty difficult race,\" said Kamiakin coach Matt Rexus. \"Still, we did what we wanted to do. We\'re happy to get through with a victory.\"

Walla Walla had two girls finish in the top five, but Richland used a strong pack -- its top five runners finished within 30 seconds of one another, and its No. 7 runner was ahead of Wa-Hi\'s No. 5 and Davis and Wenatchee\'s Nos. 4 -- to win with 61 points. Wa-Hi had 65, Davis 71, Wenatchee 75 and Ike 78.

Richland senior Tyler Noland won the 4A boys race in 16:01 to lead the Bombers to a second-place finish behind Eisenhower. West Valley won the 3A girls title.
