Efraimson going pro! Signs with Nike!

Update: It is confirmed that Alexa Efraimson has turned professional and signed with Nike. She will be represented by one of the top agencies for track & field athletes in the Flynn Sports Management group. She will continue to train with her existing personal coach Mike Hickey.  Efraimson will still be finishing up her classes as a senior to graduate from Camas High School this spring then look to attend a local college in the Northwest while entering year #2 as a pro runner. More details coming.

"The Swoosh" now has strong ownership of the future of American women's distance running between teenagers Cain & Efraimson as Nike sponsored athletes

Rumors were swirling on Monday night through social media and blowing up smart phones across the country that high school distance running phenom Alexa Efraimson of Camas High School in Washington may be turning pro and forgoing her senior year of high school eligibility. The rumors (first reported and confirmed in an Efraimson video interview by DyeStat) turned out to be true as Efraimson will be following in a similar path as Mary Cain took this past year when she signed a contract to run professionally for Nike.

A sign towards the future. The last time that we saw Efraimson in a Nike singlet was en route to winning the 2013 Nike Cross Nationals last December.

There had been great debate and discussion all this past spring on what would be the next step for the US #2 high school all-time performer in the 1500 and US high school outdoor 1600 meter record holder Efraimson. If she kept her amateur status, Efraimson would be returning to high school races as head and shoulders above the rest of the top prep distance runners in the country for her senior year and would have a tougher time finding the competition over the next year to continue her development. She will have no problem now finding that competition regularly in elite professional races to pull her along to faster times.

More details and follow up story as well as reaction on Efraimson's decision to turn pro as well as signing with Nike.
