SPOKANE — Lisa Olander and Rachael Johnson won their specialties and then helped West Valley run a five-second season best for a state-qualifying effort in the 1,600-meter relay at Saturday's Class 3A regional meet at Spokane Falls Community College.
Olander, the defending state 1,600 champ, won that race by 14 seconds, clocking 5 minutes, 4.17 seconds. Johnson, a four-year state qualifier in the 400, ran a career-best 57.85
In the meet's final event, the Rams finished second in the 1,600 relay in 4:02.64.
The top two placers qualified for the 3A state meet in Pasco next Friday and Saturday. Kira Lewis also advanced for the Rams, placing second in the triple jump at 35-11.
West Valley's boys came away with three champions in four events. Matt Gill added the shot title (51-6) to his win in the discus on Friday, and Tim Kruse (800) and Taylor Tanasse (javelin) were also winners.

Mandapat leads big day for Davis
SPOKANE — Davis freshman Dimitri Mandapat didn't act his age on Saturday, finishing a state-qualifying second in the 200 and fourth in the 100 at the Class 4A regional meet at Spokane Falls Community College.
On Friday, Mandapat anchored the Pirates to second place in the 400 relay.
Davis had a standout performance overall, collecting six top-five places in the boys meet and two in girls.
The top three placers in each event qualified for the 4A state meet in Pasco next week.
Senior Adam Stewart will join Mandapat (200) and the relay at state after placing third in the high jump at 6-4. Mandapat and Rafe Wright just missed state with fourths in the 100 and 400, respectively, and Emmanuel Contreras shattered his school sophomore record in the 1,600 taking fifth in 4:19.91.
Davis' Samantha Potvin earned a return trip to state in the triple jump, placing third at 35-71/4. Teammate Sandra Martinez was second in the 3,200 on Friday.
Eisenhower will have two boys at state. AJ Crews qualified in the discus on Friday, and Cody VanDeBrake made it on Saturday in the 800. He was third in a personal best 1:56.47.
