Gear Geek: Under Armour Speedform Gemini

The latest addition to the Speedform line, UA has released a lightweight neutral trainer with the Gemini.

New to Run Specialty Under Armour has diligently been ramping up their Run Division and the Gemini is a product of their new focus.

For the optimist in the running industry, this is a step in the right direction. It's refreshing to see an option away from the traditional market provide a quality product. Key features of the shoe provide a solid foundation for what is to come in their running line.

A combination of new designs and a touch of nostalgia from some successful shoes from the past… Several Key Features stand out in this product to deliver a satisfying feel to the shoe out of the box.

The SpeedForm upper provides a very natural and comfortable feel to the shoe, minimalistic by feel it actually has a considerable amount of design. The nearly seamless liner uses an external heel counter and silicon lined ankle collar to lock the foot back in the shoe. The footbed is padded but without a conventional inserted liner, integrated seamlessly into the shoe it adds to the feel and reduces possibility chafing/irritations.

The Charge Midsole delivers the promised a soft and responsive contact under the foot. Unlike previous shoes UA has built a stacked dual density midsole with EVA to provide the support and durability lacking in the past (RC, Apollo). Complete with a blown rubber outsole this shoe will be able to withstand more miles during the season.

Yet there is still room for improvement, the SpeedFrom fit does have its limitations. The shoe has the ability to comfortably run from 5-15K on a daily basis, snug in the forefoot with a shallow toe box I would recommend adding 1/2 size. Not quite ready to tackle the high mileage on a daily basis. This is a solid option for tempo and quality runs.
