MileSplit50 Girls Indoor 2018

Rank Athlete/Team Comments
1
4th in the Millrose 55m and helped Bullis post yet another absurdly fast 4x2.
2
Getting in a little endurance work this week with a 600m at a section meet in New York.
3
What a win for Wilkinson taking down the top milers in the country at Millrose! She began the season at #22 in the MileSplit50 and has now worked her way into the top three.
4
Strong showing for Chmiel to finish right behind Wilkinson in the Millrose mile. Her 4:44.55 is a new lifetime PR in the event by six seconds.
5
CO
Arria Minor had a great weekend but drops a spot due to the strong performances from Wilkinson and Chmiel. The Colorado sprinter moved up to #7 on the all time list in the 200m(23.43) and ran some impressively consistent times in the 60m rounds (7.42, 7.43, 7.37).
6
It looked like the wheels came off for Tuohy. She's raced a lot this season, but just couldn't maintain her pace in the final laps of the mile and faded back to fourth at Millrose.
7
The Suffolk Invite in VA over the weekend had some pretty decent sprint fields, and Ballard came away with a win in the 55m.
8
Short sprints not exactly her strength, but Wilson mixed it up in the 55m at Suffolk.
9
Many of the top sprinters in the north east toed the line for the Millrose 55m, but Davies has once again proven she's the one to beat in this event. If she's going to be challenged at nationals it'll have to come from an athlete in the south/west.
10
Michigan certainly could use more attention. Grace Stark has been quietly doing her thing all season long and had another great week with a 8.35 in the 60H and 7.64 in the 60m.

12
Third behind Toshel Goffe in the 55m at Millrose and carried the stick with the 1:36 Bullis 4x2 squad.
13
Stronger in the hurdles than the open 55m, but she managed a fifth place finish at Millrose and contributed to the 4x2 win.
14
Really excited to see Vanessa Watson get a shot at more elite athletes in the post season because she keeps dropping PRs and nationally ranked times solo on a consistent basis. She ran a new personal best and US #1 1:31.56 in the 600m.
15
The winner for most consistent performances of the week goes to Emily Sloan. Her 60H rounds at Air Force clocked in at 8.34, 8.35, 8.34.

17
Bailey Lear won in the 400m against collegiate athletes in Lubbock. Her 53.20 moves her to #8 on the all time list.
18
Easier week for Carter taking a break from the track and competing in the field events at Suffolk.

Jasmine Moore was part of the strong HS contingent who competed against the college athletes at Texas Tech this weekend. She finished second in the triple jump with a best mark of 42-01.75. She also hit 41'+ four more times in the competition.
21
Even though she was sixth in the Millrose mile, it was still a great week for Katherine Lee. She ran a new PR in 1000m and the 4:52.98 mile time is an indoor PR and just .07s off her outdoor PR.
22
While she was 13th in the mile at Millrose, that event hasn't been her strongest. She also ran a 2:10.27 800m this week which is just .01s off the current US #1.
23
Starliper ran consistent splits at Millrose to finish less than half a second behind MileSplit50 #4 Kelsey Chmiel in the mile and three seconds ahead of #6 Katelyn Tuohy.
24
Larkin competed at Air Force this weekend and had solid performances, but a bit off of the marks we've seen earlier in the season.
25
Calmer racing week for Townsend after coming off strong performances last week at Ocean Breeze.
26
Goffe begins to work her way back up the MileSplit50 after a second place finish in the Millrose 55m behind Thelma Davies and beating the Bullis sprinters.
27
Lydia Olivere tripled at state in the 800m/1600m/3200m.

29
Wood ran a 24.9 200m and 7.85 60m over the weekend.
30
Solid times for Waller in the 300m and 55m while competing at her indoor district championships.
31
After making waves in the 60m in December, Killebrew is rising back towards the top of the national rankings. She ran a US #2 7.45 twice while racing at Vanderbilt.
32
Gaughan still holds the #1 time in the country in the two mile, and after winning her state championship this weekend, moved up to #2 in the 3000m.
33
Tia Jones drops a bit this week. She had decent times at Vanderbilt, but not what we might expect from one of the most talented hurdlers in the country. Many other hurdlers are racing faster more consistently than Jones so far this season and you could make an argument to drop her further, but she has historically executed best when it matters most. I have no doubt that she'll be in top form and contending for a national title in March.

35
Grimes drops to 35th after an 8th place finish in the 55m.
36
Lily Flynn has shown off her range from the 600m to the mile this season and ran a new lifetime mile PR while beating Katherine Lee at Millrose in 4:50.

38
Lester was third in the 60H at Vanderbilt. She has focused more in the shorter sprints/hurdles this season, which has resulted in her dropping in the MileSplit50. She's a very talented 400m runner and potentially one of the best in the country in that event, but has only run it once this season.

Kennedy Simon got bumped to the bubble for a few weeks but jumps back into the MileSplit50 after becoming only the second athlete to run under 54 in the 400m this season and also posting a 24.4 200m at Vanderbilt.

With her 8th place 4:55 in the Millrose mile, it was the second time this season Trainor has run 4:55 or faster. She also has a 2:51 (US #5) in the 1000m and a 10:41 (US #2) in the two mile.
43
Barksdale and Oak Park continue to do work and run fast in Michigan.

Alexis Brown is back after dealing with an upper respiratory infection that hampered her performances at A&M in early January. She was 6th against collegiate athletes in Lubbock over the weekend in a new US #5 7.49 in the 60m.
47
Merrill ran a 4:41 1500m last week at her class championships.
48
Warren won the long jump at the DGVTCA meet but was also 6th in the 60m finals.
49
It's getting to be tough for sprinters to stay in the MileSplit50 with the depth in the 60m-400m right now. Hall set a class record in the 60m while winning the Alabama State Champs this weekend.

EXPLAINING MILESPLIT50:

These are subjective rankings of the top 50 athletes across all indoor track and field events. Feel free to reach out to MileSplit via email (travis.miller@flosports.tv) or on Twitter (@milesplit or @TravisMillerFlo)

Here are the attributes MileSplit considered when ranking athletes (in no particular order):

- IAAF points for ballpark numbers to compare performances across different events

- PRs

- Returning indoor track & field rankings

- Significant wins/results in previous indoor seasons

- More weight on "championship" events (I took stats and performances from ALL events into consideration, but championship events are more important at the national level)

- Participation in relays

- 2018 indoor track & field results

- Indoor competition frequency (these are rankings for indoor track & field, not necessarily the best all around XC/indoor/outdoor athletes)
