Salute to Seniors: Andrew Canale of CBA

Salute To Seniors is a medium for "senior farewells". We wanted to give everyone a chance to salute them one more time as well as invite those seniors to tell their stories from the past four years. We will be posting this series through July, we already have a number of submissions and if you would like to submit check out this article for how to do so.

What was your most memorable moment?

My most memorable moment in high school was being a part of CBA's 100th state title. We all came together and we got the job done against a great Union Catholic team.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

I would consider Tim Jacoutot (my teammate) my biggest competition. Tim is one of my best friends, but we battle on the track. He was my main training partner throughout high school and I would not be where I am without him.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment is leading my team to an undefeated indoor and outdoor season my senior year. We lost a lot of great seniors in 2017 and we were the underdogs coming into this year. Another accomplishment would be breaking the 200 and 400 school records.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I had many obstacles throughout high school. I had a bad hip injury that limited me my sophomore year. I was not performing to my best ability and had a tough time believing in myself. Lucky for me, I have one of the best coaches and teammates that support me no matter what.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss the practices and big meets with CBA. Every practice is filled with a positive vibe and we all just have fun. We work hard and feed off each other. We are all brothers and everyone recognizes that.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Take time, sit down and take it all in. It flies by. I still remember when I was a freshman running the 4x4 against Taylor McLaughlin and getting absolutely rocked. Most importantly, have fun. In the end, that's all that matters.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

Karl Torchia has had one of the biggest impacts on my life. Karl isn't just a coach. He's like a second father to me and every kid on CBA track. He always knows how to make you laugh when you are feeling down. He keeps everyone motivated and focused. He is always a team player and always looks after others rather than himself. He is very unselfish. He is the rock behind CBA Track and that is why this team has been so successful. All the success I have had personally on the track is because of Karl and I can't thank him enough for what he has done for me. I ran 62 my first 400. I finished my high school career running 47. I think it's safe to say that he is one of the best coaches out there if not the best.

What are your post-high school or college plans?

I am committed to Bryant University. I'm very excited to join the squad!

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, teammates and competitors for all the support throughout highschool. It was an awesome time and I wouldn't want to change anything about it. I would also like to thank Coach Cusick for being a great mentor over the last 4 years. Q, I can't thank you enough, thank you for keeping me on the right path.

Anything else you would like to add?

It's been good Jersey. Rhode Island here I come. -Cannolis Out-
