Shorecrest produces historic finish
The Scots become the first school from the host district to win the Shoreline Invite.

SHORELINE - Shorecrest became the first Shoreline District school to win the Shoreline Invitational boys track meet in the 19-year history of the event Saturday at Shoreline Stadium.

The Scots won the 400-meter relay - edging Cascade by a second - captured the 1,600 relay and were third in the 800 relay.

\"The four by one ran out of their minds,\" Shorecrest coach Brandon Christensen said. \"They ran a 42.79, the best time in state this year and won by 15 meters.\"

They also had a 1-2 finish by Derek Clemmons (20 feet, 10 inches) and Jesse Hoffman (20-9) in the long jump and a second by Ikenna Acholonu in the 110 hurdles and a third in the triple jump.

\"I like to think with the group we have we\'re always going to be in the competition,\" Christensen said. \"I knew we\'d score points if we performed well and they did. Everybody entered did their part.\"

Jeff Helmer won his first race since transferring from Jackson to Everett, taking the 3,200 in 9:11.52.

Cascade\'s Austin Curran was second in the 100. Stanwood\'s Isaac Teichgrab was second in the 200 and third in the 400.

Kamiak\'s Jonathan Cooper won the 1,600 for freshmen and sophomores.
