What can You say About Max? Robert Mirenzi Nov 04, 2006

On the eve of probably the biggest 3A XC showdown of the past 10 years, I got to talk with Max O\'Donoghue-McDonald... I started out wanting to get a sense of how he felt as one of the top dogs in this impressive pack and ended after what seemed like too short a talk, impressed with a young athlete confident in himself, empowered by his training, motivated by great coaches and aware of his place and role on the Seattle Prep Team.

Ballard Boys Keep Traveling Trophy from Westling Invite Robert Mirenzi Apr 24, 2006

Ballard High School still has what it takes in spite of loosing a premier troop of Senior talent form the 2005 track season.
The Ballard Boys Track team took first place again at the South Whidbey Westling Invitational. What they did last year with blistering talent, this year they plugged in consistant performers across the board.
The last several seasons of success has brought the schools talent to the team. Ballard now enjoys consitant contenders in most of the track and field events. A slow start to the season led many to assume Ballard had seen its day but now a few teams are checking over their shoulder.
The Ballard girls team took a close second to the Home town Falcons.

Brandon Graef Sets Sites on Bellevue Robert Mirenzi Apr 20, 2006

This Weeks Featured Athlete
Brandon Graef of Skyline HS as been one of Skyline\'s best kept and best groomed athletes. He has stepped up to claim his title over events he has been setting marks for since Junior High. Success in track is a lesson in putting one foot in front of the other long enough and focused enough until you become the best. This Senior for Skyline is yet another example to bolster this idea. Brandon has claimed the hurdles since JR High.He ranks #3 in the State. This weekend at the Bellevue Invitational he will face down the #1 ranked 300H athlete, Kyle Schuable of Kamiakin. Good luck, this weekend could very well be one of those times when a good athlete becomes a great athlete.

Week 3 Kingco Seed Times Robert Mirenzi Apr 13, 2006

This week has offered alot to the Kingco Mix. The top story is by far Matt Frerker of Skyline. He has been tearing up the track this year, showing everyone how to become an 800m contender. After an outstanding 1:56 last week, he posted a 1:55.2 in front of his home team fans. His closest threat was Zack Gussin with a 1:57.2 . Matt came across the 400 post with a 58:6. Needless to say he is holding the top time in this event. By the way he is also holding the top 1600 and 3200 time.
Outstanding!
He posted a 9:21 this weekend at the Arnie Young Initational. He passed on his berth at Arcadia in the top seeded 3200 heat.
Jessica Pixler of Eastlake carved off her next mile at Arcadia. She posted a solid 4:59. a full 3 seconds off her last time.
Inglemoor sent its relay teams to Arcadia and it turned out to be worth the price of admission. The distance and sprint medleys showed up with respectable 7th and 9th places in a list of who\'s who on the west coast.
Stay tuned, it\'s going to get alot better!

Records Start to Fall Robert Mirenzi Apr 07, 2006

Records are beginning to creep up and fall. The 2006 T&F season is seeing early marks set as school records begin to topple. Last night Matt Frerker ran into his next 800 m time. He set a school record for Sklyline of 155:2 . Zack Gussin of Ballard stepping out of a 52.4 400m just minutes earlier, did his best but could only wring out a 1:57.7 a personal best for him. Last Week Hanna Grainger set a 3200 school record for Chimacum HS with a blistering 11:39. This Junior runner has made great news since she has started running. She\'s had some trouble with eligibility since her move from PT last year, but its all a go now.

WEEK 2 of KINGCO 4A Seed Times Robert Mirenzi Apr 05, 2006

Things are starting to get interesting at Kingco. Matt Frerker of Skyline has taken an agressive early stand. He has already set an outstanding bar in the 800. He posted a 1:56 last week. The fast times have given him an early prep for a sub 4:20 1600. His closest challengers are a full 10 seconds behind him. His trip to Arcadia this weekend should prove something to keep an eye on. Brian Schulz of Inglemoor is also dropping into the elite west coast Invitational. He is showing up with a 4:30 post and should also do well in CA. this weekend. Good Luck Guys.
Jessica Pixler of Eastlake is poised to break into the 4 minute area for the 1600. She has posted a 5:02 this week a full 17 seconds ahead of her closest competition.
