The Brooks PR Invitational brings together the nations top track and field athletes from across the country to compete at the Dempsey Center in Seattle, Washington, one of the fastest indoor tracks in the nation. The meet consists of seven events the 60 meter dash, 60 meter hurdles, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, one mile run, and two mile run. Illinois is well represented sending six of the state's finest to Seattle. Leading up to the meet we will spotlight these talented runners.

Erin Finn
West Bloomfield High School, SR
Event: 2 Mile
PR's: 4:47.08 (Mile) 10:18.82 (2 Mile)

Erin Finn will be racing in the third Brooks PR Invitational, and for the third time she will be running the 2 Mile at the meet. The future Michigan Wolverine has finished third in the first two Brook PR meets and will return for one last shot at a victory in Seattle. Finn has established herself as one of the top HS distance runners in the country with two top ten finishes at Foot Locker Nationals including a runner-up finish in 2011.  The West Bloomfield senior collected a national championship, winning the New Balance Indoor title in 2012 finishing the 5000m race in 16:19.  Finn has shown incredible determination in her last few races.  She opened her track season with a 10:38 3200m, just a second off of her PR.  From there she went back to the XC course to win the NACAC Championships and added a second place finish at the USA XC Championships.  This past weekend she went back to the track clocking in at 4:47.08 for a mile to grab a new PR.

Being a seasoned veteran at this meet, Finn is looking forward to returning to Seattle. ” I can’t wait for everything!  I know that it will all be a blast.  Everything, from the race to the people to the gear, makes Brooks PR amazing!  Seattle is also just an awesome city.  I truly enjoy the opportunity of being in Seattle that the meet presents.”

Getting To Know Erin

What music do you listen to before races?

I know it’s weird, but I don’t listen to music before races!  I usually just try to visualize my race and how I plan on executing it.  I always pray and, for some odd reason, yawn pre-race.  I remember seeing Michael Phelps yawn before all of his gold medal swims at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, so maybe yawning isn’t a bad thing!

What is your favorite food?

I am going to change this question to favorite foods.  I LOVE peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, and apples.

If you were stranded on an island with three things what would they be?

If I were stranded on an island with three things, I would bring peanut butter, my laptop (if it came with a magic wifi connection!), and my running shoes.  If I couldn’t have wifi, I would bring a good book.

What are some things unrunning related people might not know about you?

  • I am a big nerd; I love science!
  • Modern Family is my favorite TV show.  I also try to watch Grey’s Anatomy when I have time, so I can’t wait to go to Seattle where the show is set!
  • My favorite number is 19 (I was born on November 19th).
  • I used to play soccer and do karate.
