Grace Ping To Race Pros At UW Indoor Preview!


Eighth-grader Grace Ping is back at it again! The 13-year-old phenom from Park City, Utah will compete vs. a professional and collegiate field in the 3K at the UW Indoor Preview in Seattle this weekend.

The heat sheets are not released yet, but the entry list includes Kim Conley (rabbit), 800m Olympic finalist Kate Grace, Brie Felnagle and Leah O'Connor, all of the NorCal Distance Project; plus Sifan Hassan of the Nike Oregon Project, who owns the Netherlands' 3K national record in 8:29.38.

Ping's personal best for 3K is 9:46.29 from March of last year, though we see that PB going much lower this weekend. This past fall, she proved she is in the best shape of her life as she set a world age group record for 5K on the road by running 16:36 at the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot and placed sixth at Nike Cross Nationals.

Other high schoolers entered in the event include Sophie Cantine of Lakeside, Wa. in the 1K (2:47.64 PR), and Tierra Crockrell of Calabasas, Ca. in the 60m (7.63 PR), 200m (24.67 PR), and 60m hurdles (9.81 PR).
