Parks Takes Second In Brooks PR Mile

Taryn Parks of Greencastle-Antrim capped off her terrific junior campaign with a second place finish in the girls' mile at Brooks PR in Seattle, Washington on Saturday.

Pakrs went 4:42.37 to take runner-up honor to Michigan's Zofia Dudek at the end-of-season Brooks PR Invitational.

Parks spent most of the race at or near the front. After the field came through in a relatively conservative 2:25 through the opening 800 meters, Parks seized the lead and took control of the race. Dudek took the lead briefly heading into the final lap, but Parks continued to lead until the final 100 meters. It was then that Dudek threw in a surge and kicked to the win in 4:41.34 with Parks holding on for second.

Last month, Parks dazzled the state of Pennsylvania at the PIAA State Championships when she went 4:37 in the 1,600 meters and held off Marlee Starliper to claim the state title. She closed out her junior season with another strong race on Saturday.

Strath Haven's Grace Forbes wrapped up her high school career with a strong showing. The senior went 4:44.12 to take sixth in the mile field. That's a PR in the event, also topping her 1,600 meter PR.
