Sophomore Boys 2019 XC All-MileSplitCA Team


The MileSplit California 2019 All-State Sophomore Boys Cross Country team is based on placing at the State Meet within the class. Results at section divisional finals and other top performances are considered for second team and honorable mention placement and inclusion. 

FIRST TEAM


DANIEL APPLEFORD, Newbury Park (SS) 


Ran 15:37.70 at the State Meet for 24th place overall and the No. 4 sophomore boy on the 5K Woodward Park course that day. Helped Newbury Park to a second consecutive Division II title and also scored as his team won the NXN title. No. 5 sophomore in the Southern Section Championship merge.


ANDRES CHAVEZ, Eleanor Roosevelt (SS) 


The fifth-fastest boy in the sophomore class at the State Meet, he ran 15:39.60 for 5K, placing 35th overall in the Division I race. He was the No. 2 sophomore in D-I at State. Ranked as the No. 11 sophomore in the Southern Section merge.




Only a tick behind Colin Sahlman in the Division II race at the State Meet in 15:09.90 for sixth place with the No. 2 time in the class at the meet. Had the top time among sophomores in the Southern Section Championship merge after placing fourth in the Division 2 race (14:41.7).



The No. 6 boy in the sophomore class at the State Meet, he ran 15:40.40 on the Woodward Park course and placed 11th. Placed second in the Division 3 race at the Southern Section Championships and placed fourth overall among sophomores at that meet. Won the D3-4-5 Individual race at Mt. SAC in 15:11.00, the fastest time among sophomore boys over the two-day meet.



Our 2018 Boys Freshman of the Year was the top runner in the sophomore class at the State Meet, running the Woodward Park 5K course in 15:09.80 to place fifth overall in helping Newbury Park to a second consecutive D-II title. He also ran third as the Panthers won the NXN title where he placed 53rd overall and 18th among scorers. His time at the State Meet ranks fourth all-time for sophomore boys.

KELLEN STEPLIGHT, Vacaville (SJ)


The No. 7 boy in the 2022 class at the State Meet after running 15:42.50 for 34th place in the Division II race and the No. 4 sophomore boy. The top sophomore in the Sac-Joaquin Section Championship merge after placing third in the D-II race. Had the third-fastest time (15:39.00) in the class at Mt. SAC.



He ran 15:37.20 for 32nd place in the Division I race but his time was the fastest in the class for D-I and No. 3 boy in the class of 2022 at the State Meet. Placed second in the Division 1 race at the Southern Section Finals (14:55.7), which ranked as the No. 3 sophomore boy in the SS merge. His 15:13.00 for third place in the D1-2 Individual Sweepstakes at Mt. SAC was the second fastest in the class for the two-day meet.


SECOND TEAM


ZACHARY AYERS, Davis Senior (SJ) -- His 15:43.50 ranked No. 9 in the class at the State Meet, where he placed 45th in the Division I race. He was the No. 3 sophomore in that race.  Placed 12th in the D-I race at the SJS Finals, which ranked as the No. 5 sophomore boy at that meet.

MARIO GIANNINI, Chico (NS) -- Placed 19th in the Division III race at the State Meet, running 15:52.60, the No. 14 time among boys in the 2022 class. Won the combined division III-IV-V race at the CIF-Northern Section Championships as one only four section divisional champions in the class.

BRYCE GILMORE, Sage Creek (SD) -- Ran 15:43.90 at the State Meet for 13th in Division IV race. His time ranked 10th overall among sophomore boys at the CIF Championships. Runner-up in the D-4 race at the San Diego Section Championships, which placed him fourth among sophomore boys in the SDS merge.

JEREMY KAIN, Scotts Valley (CC) -- Ran 15:43.10 at the State Meet, placing 12th in the Division 4 race. His time ranked No. 8 in the class at the CIF Championships. Placed 11th in the CCS Finals and ranked as the No. 7 sophomore in the meet merge.

ALEX MADER, Lick Wilmerding (NC) -- Placed sixth in the Division V race at the State Meet, running 15:49.50, the No. 13 time at the meet among sophomore boys. Placed third in the NCS Final, ranking as the No. 2 boy in the 2022 class at that meet.

KENAN PALA, Francis Parker (SD) -- Placed fourth in the Division V race at the State Meet, running 15:46.10 over the 5K Woodward Park course. His time ranks 11th among 2022 boys at State. Won the D5 title at the San Diego Section Championships and ranked as the No. 2 sophomore boy at the meet. He is one of only four in the class with section titles.

DANIEL TRAMPE, Dublin (NC) -- Ran the No. 12 time in the class at the State Championships (15:47.40), placing 53rd in the Division 1 race. Placed 11th in the D-I race at the NCS Finals, ranking as the No. 4 sophomore boy at that meet.
