Salute To Seniors: Rawson Spackman (Farmington)

Want To Be Our Next Senior Salute? Find Out How!

Name: Rawson Spackman

School: Farmington

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?

Definitely the 2019 UHSAA 5A XC meet. I wasn't really sure what to expect during this race just because we hadn't raced a lot of the other teams in 5A. The gun went off and for the first two miles it was my teammate and I, Adam Wall, who were leading the chase pack. It was a super cool experience because it felt like it was just me and Adam running alone, pushing each other. One thing led to another and I ended up placing 2nd overall and leading my team to Farmington's First State title. It honestly was one of the most amazing days of my life.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My Teammate Adam Wall, although it's not really a competition between us. Its more of an expectancy, like we hold ourselves accountable to one another. If one of us is slacking in a race or a workout, we push each other, and build off one another.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

Taking 2nd at State and helping my team win the State title!

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would want to have more confidence in myself and my abilities and tell myself that I had a lot more to give in workouts and races. I really learned how to work hard this year and I wish I could have learned sooner.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

My junior year I had to race JV for the whole year because I got a variance to Farmington. It was hard to be racing in JV races when I was capable of running varsity times, but I learned a lot of patience and how to push myself when I was alone.

What will you miss the most?

The team unity that Farmington has is unreal, it will for sure be the thing I miss most.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Have faith in your God, coaches, parents, teammates, and yourself. Push aside the obstacles and go for your dreams. Don't live life with regrets. Always remember in races that the well always goes deeper. You always have more to give.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

He has taught me to make sure that you are unified in whatever you do. Where there is unity, there is success.

What are your college plans?

I have committed and signed to run with Utah State University!

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

My teammates, I really couldn't have done it without them. But also my parents and family. I have a big family and I could always count on my cheering squad.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

FOREVER THE FIRST, FOREVER THE PHOENIX
