Northwest Review Week Ending 4-21

       Although attention has been given to the Oregon Relays there was much else happening last week in the area including the Mooberry Relays in Spokane, which was highlighted by the duel between Andrew Gardner of Mead & Nathan Weitz of Shadle Park.  The two had faced each in the 3200 the previous week in Pasco with Weitz getting the nod but on Saturday it was Andrew’s turn.  Running in the Gerry Lindgren Mile Nathan set the early pace but Andrew broke the tape in a very fine time of 4:10 and in-so-doing broke the meet record of 4:12 set last year by Weitz.  Nathan finished second in 4:12.  Keith Williams of North Central, Dayde Collins of Deer Park & Conor McCandless of Gonzaga had a rousing battle for third with Williams getting the nod, as all three were credited with 4:18 and change.   Katie Knight of North Central won the girls’ mile with 5:00.71 to her roll through the Spring events.  Sanne Holland of Cheney placed second in 5:10, while Katie Morris of Shadle earned third with 5:18.

      There were numerous marks of distinction in the weight events including Courtney Hutchinson’s heave of 47-05 in the Shot Put for Mead.    Asotin’s Kayla Loop was victorious in the Discus with 134-06 and Gianna Damiano took honors in the Discus with 128-00.   Katie Wadsworth of Central Valley scored in the Hammer Throw with 146-05, while Austin Funk of Post Falls, Idaho won the guys’ version of the event with 188-03.   Adam Mahama of Pullman and Damon Unland of Ferris battled each other in both the Shot Put & the Discus with Mahama getting the nod in both events.   Still both had fine marks of 51-09 and 51-03 in the Shot and 167-06 & 162-03 in the Discus respectively.   Carson Fuller just missed the magic 200 barrier in the Javelin.  The Ferris athlete threw 198-06 to win but Sam Hilmes of Mead was not far behind with 189-04.  

     Jessica Chrisp of Riversie claimed the high Jump with 5-05 with Lauren McCluskey of Pullman right behind with 5-04.  McCluskey was victorious in the 100 Meters with a 14.90 clocking.   Courtney Bray of Pullman won the Pole Vault with 12-03, while Jay Alexander was the best of the guys with 14-06.   Brennan Schon of Lewis & Clark led the guys in the Long Jump with 22-05, as Anna Guo of Pullman annexed the Girls’ event with 17-02.25.  Anna also scored in the Triple Jump with 36-00.25.    Jess Mildes of Riverside won the 3200 Meters with 11:28 and North Central guys claimed the Distance Medley with a time of 10:31.   The team was made up of Austin Frostad, Jake Hoffman, David Blue & Kai Wilmot.  

     At Prosser Ignacio Ibarra of Wapato had a good day with victories in the 200 Meters (22.93) & the 400M (50.80).  Nick Wales of DeSalles claimed the 300 Hurdles with 40.34 & Cody Quinton of Hanford won the Discus with 155-02.  Amy Pfaff of Hanford led the way in the girls’ 400 Meters with 60.5.

     The Bellevue Rotary Invitational saw Summer Hanson of Interlake battle Brittany Bennett of Kennedy in the 800 Meter run 2:17.96 to 2:19.   Michelle Stolz of Highline and Floriane Kameni of Bellvue had a fine duel in the Long Jump with Scott edging her rival 17-03.50 to 17-02.  Scott also won the Triple Jump with 37-10.   Brooke Kingma of Jackson won the 1600M with 5:07 and then came  back in the 3200 Meters to place second (11:14) behind Emily Dwyer of Eastlake, who ran 11:11.   Rainier Beach’s Alexis Ford edged Pearl Terry of Bainbridge by a hundredth of a second by crossing the line in 58.90.  Track fans witnessed brisk times in the 200 Meter Dash, as Alanna Vann of Todd Beamer edge Emmaline Suckland of Ballard 25.60 to 25.66.  Vann also scored in the 100M with 12.38.   Erich Schulz of Mercer Island dueled Will Sheeran of Bellevue in the 800 with Schulz coming out on top 1:57.42 to 1:58 but Sheeran led the field in the 1600M with 4:21.   In the 3200M Joe Hardy of Seattle Prep won with 9:07 and had a four second margin over John Fowler of Bellevue.    The times in the 300 Hurdles were brisk with Daniel Zmuda of Steilacoom nipping Todd Beamer’s Austin Hitchcock 39.54 to 39.81.  Zmuda’s time of 14.91 was the best in the 100 Hurdles.  

      At the Mountain Invitational Phoung Truong of Mt. Tahoma tossed the Discus 164-05 and Olivia Brock heaved the Javelin 125-05.   Izaic Yorks sped the 800 Meters in 1:51, while Lexi Fesenbeck of Olympia scored in the girls’ 400M with 59.07.   In the guys’ one-lapper Marcus Chambers of Foss edged Andrew Brown of Tumwater 1:48.28 to 48.88.   Olympia athlete Sofia Kane won the 1600 Meters in 5:16 and Alyssa Mazano of Wilson claimed the Triple Jump with 35-02.50.

     Tera Novy made a visit to the Kalama Twilight on Friday memorable with his Shot Put mark of 45-02.50.  The Montesano leader also won the Discus with 144-04.   Sabrina Sears of Evergreen claimed the 800 title with a time of 2:20.  Dani Eggleston of Longview scored in both the 1600 (5:31) and the 3200 (11:34).  Jake Clizbe of Kalama had a successful day with a trio of triumphs that included 6-00 in the High Jump, 21-06 in the Long Jump & 41-07 in the Triple Jump.    In other boys’ events Jacob Yordy of Longview claimed both the 100M with 11.22 & the 200M with 22.71.  Both hurdles events went to Jared Neuman of Kalama, who ran 15.13 & 40.89.   Mitch Moe of Longview toped fifty in the Shot Put with 50-07 and Austin Johnson of Kalama took the 400M in 50.75.  Also of note Sean Eustis of Washougal earned a victory in the 3200 with 9:41.

      At the Crater Classic Hidden Valley’s Jefferson Jarvis set personal bests in the Shot Put (60-10.50) & the Discus (180-11).   Elizabeth Venzon, also from HV, scored in both the High Jump with 5-06, topping North Medford’s Halley Folsum, who went 5-05, and the Triple Jump (35-01.50).  Folsum scored in the 300 Hurdles with 46.68.  Hidden Valley also received a double victory thanks t Sierra Brown, who defeated Alisha Luna of Klamath in the 1500 with 4:46, and then came back to score in the 3K with 10:58.  Sarah Hastings gave Crater valuable points with her victory in the 800 Meters in 2:21.  Anna Roshak of Mountain View won the Shot with 41-07.75 and then placed second in the Discus behind Rebecca Davidson’s 111-07.   The 400 Meters provided a fine duel between Aliyah Gallup of Thurston and Carmen Mejia of South Medford with Gallup winning in 59.05.  Carmen was only .25 behind.   Gallup also annexed the Long Jump with a fine mark of 17-02.75.       

    The boys’ side of the ledger had much to boast beyond the efforts of Jarvis including the High Jump (6-06) of Mitch Modin of Mountain View.   Modin also scored in the Long Jump with 21-07.50.   The Javelin competition resulted in two strong throws, as Lane Roseberry of Lakeview topped Barret Snow of Eagle Point 189-10 to 184-08.   Jon Obeso of Crater dueled both Zorg Loustalet of Henley & Paul Adams of Mazama in the 3K with Obeso taking the laurels with 9:06.34.  Zorg ran 9:06.83 and Adams came in with 9:07.   Blake Spencer of North Medford had a multiple-victory day scoring in both the 800M (1:58) and the 1500M (4:07).   Kodie Artner ran 50.59 for NM in the 400 Meters and Tyrone Holmes of Eagle Point may not have won the Shot but he still produced a fine mark of 54-02.50.

       At the Viking Classic at Lake Stevens Nicholas Boersma ran a national class time of 1:51 to join Izaic Yorks on the list for Washington.  Jacob Smith, like Boersma from Wenatchee, showed that he is rounding into form after a break due to injury by winning both the 1600M (4:23) & the 3200 Meter (9:13).   Isaiah Brandt-Sims, yet another Wenatchee athlete, earned the trifecta of the 100 Meter Dash (11.13), the 200M (22.05) & the 400 Meter Run (49.05).   Eric Simpson of Rogers-Puyallup turned the trick in the hurdles with 14.85, while Jared Alskog of Arlington topped his team mate Blake McPherson in the 300 Hurdles 39.16 to 39.41.  McPherson scored in the Javelin with 195-08.   Two guys recorded marks over fifty in the Shot Put as Arlington’s Don Boyden went 53-09 & Lake Stevens’ Casey  Campbell threw 52-03.    The Arlington girls fared well in the field events with Audrey Ketcham clearing 5-06 in the High Jump, Alexis Sarver throwing 133-03 in the Discus and Lyndsay Leatherman heaving the Javelin 123-09.    Nicole Harris of Shorecrest ran a brisk 45.93 in the 300 Hurdles and Christie Adams scored in the 200M with 26.21 after placing second in the 100.

     Kamiakin travelled to Oregon to compete in the Kiwanis (Hermiston) Invitational to make things interesting.   Nationally ranked Anthony Armstrong of Kamiakin ran 8:42 to score in the 3000M and Jose Macias of Hermiston followed with 8:58.   Alex Dillard, now running for Dufur, edged Alejandro Cisneros of Hermiston 4:07 to 4:09 in the 1500M.   Eduardo Juarez of the host team dominated in the Steeplechase at 2K with his clocking of 9:43.  Kevin Robinson of Pendleton and Robbie Smith of La Grande traded positions in the hurdles with Robinson scoring in the 300M with 39.64 to 39.71, while Smith garnered the title in the 100M 15.46 to 15.48.    Ellie Heiden of Kamiakin followed her success at Pasco with a double victory here with wins in the 200M (25.12) & the 400 Meter (59.66)   Pendleton’s Sandra Torres gave Ellie a fine battle in the later event with her time of 59.92.   Megan Beauchene continues here fine running with a victory in the 800M in 2:16.   Kamiakin’s Stephanie Rexus (10:39) & Michelle Fletcher (10:56) took 1 – 2 in the 3K but Amanda Welch of La Grande scored in the 1500M with 5:05.   Natalie Cory of Kamiakin led the way in the Steeple with 8:17.   There were fine times and a good duel in the 300 Hurdles with Alysha Overland of Moses Lake getting the nod over Kayla Rasmussen of La Grande 45.49 to 49.93.   Sadie Nielson of Moses Lake scored in the Discus with 123-03 and Crystal Schmidt of Hermiston garnered the Javelin title with 133-07.   Chiawana’s Sarah Pierce annexed the Triple Jump crown with 37-08 and placed second in the Long Jump behind Kyra Brannan of Kamiakin, who edged her 17-06 to 17-03.

      The  Kelso girls had a grand day Friday at the Canby Invitational, as they not only won the team title (Canby topped the guys) but two of their athletes set new meet & school records in the process.   Kiana Davis’ Triple Jump of 38-01 established new records in both areas for that event & she also tied the meet High Jump record by clearing 5-06. Kristen Coffman of Tualatin placed second in that event with 5-04.   Her team mate McKenna Emmert was a dual record-setter in the 300 Hurdles with her clocking of 45.51.  Emmert also won the 100 Hurdles with 15.78.    Stephanie Wells of Silverton impressed once again in the Javelin and this week earned the victory with her effort of 144-08.   Jamilee Eddings, also from Kelso, ran 59.45 to score in the 400 Meters.   Aiyana Cameron-Lewis of Crescent Valley led the way in the 800 Meters with 2:18 and Tualatin’s Alexandra Cross won the 1500M with 5:01.   Mark Tedder of Battle Ground topped the guys in the 1500 with 4:08 and Cody Britt of CV took the 400M in 51.15.   Silverton’s Andrew Rogers was the best in the boys’ Javelin with 186-03.

    Bellarmine Prep flew a few athletes to Walnut, California for the Mt. SAC Invitational and Hannah Derby placed fourth overall in the Elite 400 meter Run with 57.60.   Miranda Ross (2:18) and Daryl Phil (2:25) ran in the 800 Meters.  

    Kaylie VanLoo of Glencoe had solid marks in her victories in the Shot Put (40-01) and the Discus (126-01) but her mark in the Javelin of 150-11 puts her on the national list.   Kaylie was probably the top performer at the Wilsonville Invitational but there were a good number of others, who posted marks of note, including Sydney Eaton of the host team.   She dueled Shelby Peterson of Century in the High Jump and they both produced fine efforts before Peterson won with 5-08 to the 5-06 for Shelby.  Peterson, however, scored in the Long Jump with 17-01.   On the track Kellie O’Neill of Lakeridge topped Claire DeVoe of Lincoln in the 3K 10:25 to 10:31.   Tess Michaelson of Lincoln prevailed in the 1500M with a clocking of 4:49, as Taryn Rawlings of Wilsonville (4:56) & Brigid Behrens of Corvallis (4:57) earned second & third.  Behrens ran 2:21 to take the 800 Meter Run.   Three runners broke sixty seconds in the 400 meter Run with Krissy Hengesh of Lakeridge leading the way with a brisk 57.62.  Madison Leek of West linn (58.56) & Malika Waschman of Corvallis (59.13) were close behind.   Marisa Miller of Lakeridge was a double winner with victories in the 100M (12.78) and the 200M (26.58).  Claire Thomas of Molalla ran 44.04 to triumph in the 300 meter Hurdles, as Madi Greenleaf of Lakeridge followed with 44.74.    Cam Keizer of West Linn edged Isaac Seumalo of Corvallis in the boys’ Shot Put with both posting solid marks over fifty.  Keizer threw 50-07 and Seumalo was right behind with 50-05.   Kaiharu Kitagawa of Wilsonville ran 8:47 in the 3K to top Julian Heninger of Lakeridge, who ran 8:54.   The was a close race between Ryan Byrd of St. Helens & Dillon George of West Linn with Byrd getting the score with 4:09 to the 4:10 of George.    Four runners ran 51 seconds & change in the 400M but Will Lawrence got the victory with 51.13.

      Erik Harris & Emily Nist made sure that the state of Idaho should not be over-looked for the week by racking up prime performances at the Bandana Treasure Valley Invitational held at Meridian.   Emily recorded one of the best marks in state history by running 4:58.79 in the 1600 Meter Run.  That time puts her behind Dana Morgan in the annals of Idaho running & is the third-best time according to Rachel Roberts of the Idaho Statesman.    Sam McKinnon of Mountain View was not far behind in the race with her final time of 5:01.  Placing third and fourth respectively were Maryjo Wright of Elko (5:06) & Mikayla Malaspina of Vallivue (5:07).  Nist of Bishop Kelly also annexed the 3200 Meter title in 10:50 as Mikayla Malaspina of Vallivue came in second with 10:57.  Harris from Twin Falls is highly ranked in the mile and just missed the national rankings list in the 800 meters with his 1:52.99.  There were a number of very solid times in the two-lapper with Jordon Wallin of Rocky Mountain running 1:53 and Gabe Harm of Eagle & Morgan Choate of Vallivue being credited with 1:54.  Erik also won the 3200M with a time of 9:22.   Emily Hamlin of Boise ran to 2:18.32 to nip Dana Snell of Rocky Mountain, who also ran 2:18.  There was also a tight finish in the girls’ 400 Meters with Jacherai Echevarria of Rocky Mountain running 58.87 to edge Kaylee Widdison of Mountain View (58.89) & Briana Tiffany of Bishop Kelly (59.50).   Jade Childs of Capital scored in the 100H with 14.72 and Claire Goss of Twin Falls scored in the 300H with 45.32 with Lillian Ball (45.81) on her heels.   Anna DuBois of Elko won the Shot (40-10.5) & the Discus (120-01), which were probably the top Nevada performances at the meet.    There were solid efforts in the Jumps, which were claimed by Josie Lawrence (37-10 – TJ) & Cambree Harbaugh (18-09 – LJ) who were both from Mountain View.  

      Also of note at Bandana was the solid Shot Put duel, which saw three performers top fifty.   Eli McCullough of RM led the way with 53-07. Kasey Jensen of Eagle (51-09) & Brett Thompson of Minico (50-00) earned 2nd & 3rd respectively.   Jake Knight of Rocky Mountain took the Discus with 162-09 Kendall Dean of Centennial soared 14-00 in the Pole Vault.   Jacob Meeker of Mountain View swept past the 1600 competition to win in 4:21.   Five sprinters had marks of 50 and change in the 400 Meters but Josh Wallin of RM topped them all with 50.13.  Khalil Oliver of Rocky Mountain ran14.69 in the Hurdles and Peter McGuire of Boise secured the 300M with 39.80. 

          At Idaho Falls runners in the Tiger/Grizz had to deal with altitude, as well as their competitors.  Dallin Farnsworth of Highland scored in the 3200M with a time of 9:30, which gave him a seven second advantage over Elijah Armstrong of Pocatello.  Oliver Scofield of Jackson, Wyoming placed third in 9:51.  Armstrong reversed the decision with Farnsworth in the 16oo, when he ran 4:22 to edge Dallin by two seconds.   Caden Clay of Highland took the 800 (1:59) with Jackson runner Kinsley Smith (2:01) finishing second.  Zach Havlovick of Skyline went 56-10.50 to win in the Shot Put.   Three guys broke forty in the 300 Hurdles with Dylan Raymond of Idaho Falls (39.09) edging Scott Mecham (39.43) of Rigby and Ryan Wakley (39.63) of Preston.   Kayla Lee of Canyon Ridge led the Triple Jump with 37-11 and also won the Long Jump.  Whitney Young of Rigby cleared 11-00 in the Pole Vault and Cassidy Cook of Hillcrest ran 16.03 in the 100 Hurdles.   There was good duel in the girls’ 800 Meters with three runners racing down the final straight but Alice Keller of Salmon got to the line first in 2:17.  Hannah McInturff of Century (2:18) & Korbin Traughber of Butte County (2:19) were just behind her.

    At Coeur d’Alene the CDA Invitational saw Katelyn Zabriskie of Idaho Falls win the High Jump (5-06) & the Triple Jump (35-00).  Madison Seaman of CDA tossed the Shot 40-08 and also scored in the Discus with 134-07.   Kierra Shellman of Lake City and Sam Simmons of Timberlake tied for first in the Pault Vault with 11-00.   Leanne Asper of Lake City ran 2:21 to score in the 800M & Brittany Tackett of CDA won the 400 Meters in 60.77 & also claimed the 200.    The boys’ 400 Meter Run saw Jacob Callister of Bonners Ferry edge Nick Gosselin of Lake City by .02 with his time of 51.17.  Cody Curtis of CDA took the 800 with 1:58, while Trevor Clark ran 4:29 in the 1600M to beat Mike Dunton of CDA by a second.  Clark also triumphed in the 320M.   Moscow’s Wade Schumaker topped the field in the 100H with 14.98 but Blake Gerling of Walla Walla sped home in the 300 Hurdles in 38.99 to nip Zion Stuffle of Lewiston, who ran 39.68.  That pair placed second in the third in the High Hurdles.
