Washington Indoor preview

Action at the Dempsey Indoor Facility proved historic as prep athlete Mary Cain of New York ran a record 9:02.10 in the 3K.  Running against a field of professional & collegiate runners, Cain topped all comers on the swift over-sized track.   Placing eighth in that race was Katie Knight of North Central in Spokane, who ran a fine 9:36.23.

Although Cain’s time was the highlight of the day, there were a number of other marks of special interest including Hannah Cunliffe ‘s mark of 7.44 in the 60 Meters, which knocked .04 from her personal best, as she placed second to Geronne Black of Portland State, who ran 7.41.   The Seattle Speed runner was followed by Kennadi Bouyer of Curtis, who ran for the Flying AJ’s and clocked 7.62.  Bouyer had a fine day, as she also placed second in the Long jump with 18-05.   Tierra Crockrell, who is not yet in high school, leaped 16-00.25 in the event.

Marcus Chambers of Henry Foss had a solid day placing fifth in his section of the 60 Meters in 7.13 and then winning the 200 Meters with 22.02.   Daniel Brunner of University School finished fourth in the 800 Meters (section 1) with 2:00.48.   Lindbergh runner Mohamud Abdi garnered fourth in his section of the mile with 4:25.32.

Rachel Proteau, a senior from West Albany in Oregon, tied for third in the High Jump with a leap of 5-05.75.   Rachel is a two-time champion in the event in 5A in Oregon and also placed second as a freshman.

Peyton Russell of Tumwater  took fifth in the Triple Jump and Karle Pittsinger of Chelan threw the Shot 39.04.      Galen Rupp made an attempt to break Chris Solinsky record in the Mile but came up short with 3:57.
