Another high school cross country season has started, and it's already evident that two things haven't changed from last season.

The Porter sisters from Hockinson are really fast, and the Heritage boys team have a deep and talented squad.

Like they did at last year's Class 2A state meet, Sarah and Shannon Porter finished 1-2 in the varsity girls race at Hudson's Bay High School on Friday.

Sarah Porter, a senior, pulled away to win the race in 19 minutes, 22 seconds. Shannon Porter placed second in 19:36.

Despite the Porters finish, Hockinson finished third in the girls team standings. But the Hawks were the only Class 2A school in the top six.

Columbia River won the girls team title with 38 points, easily outdistancing Southridge of Beaverton, Ore. (54).

Allison Clark finished third in 20:15 to lead the Chieftains, who had four runners place in the top 10: Zara Lukens (fourth), Zea Collentine (ninth) and Chelsea Hostetter (10th).

Putting four runners in the top 10 was the formula that the Heritage boys team used to win the varsity team title.

Jordan Hamilton paced the Timberwolves with his second-place showing in 16:40. Josh Burrus (fourth, 16:57), Shane Weldon (sixth, 17:20) and Colin Hozack (eighth, 17:24) followed for Heritage, which beat Skyview 42-60 for the team title.

Skyview's Matt Moncur won the varsity boys race in 16:37. Battle Ground's Erik Cronrath was third (16:49) and Skyview's Brian Carper was fifth (17:07).
