Bywater Breaks Mt Baker Record

The Burlington-Edison Boys defended their Mt. Baker Invite title with an 85 - 99 victory over 4A Lake Stevens. The Tigers were led by Josh Simpson with an 11th place finish and a time of 15:46 on the 3 mile course. Josh was followed by Patrick Spilsbury (17th 16:02); Tyler Armenta (20th 16:13); Frank Sosa (26th 16:26); and Wes Hargrove (27th 16:28). Joey Bywater of Lake Stevens won the race in a new meet record of 14:53.
On the girls side, Capital of Olympia defeated Central Valley of Spokane 131-135. They also defeated 3A #1 ranked Squalicum who finished 3rd with 151. Squalicum was missing one of their top runners who was on a recruiting trip. The girls winner was Bronwyn Crossman of Squalicum 17:39 which was a new course record. Burlington-Edison\'s Liisa Cushing was 9th with a time of 18:45.
The Burlington-Edison boys also won the freshman race over Lakewood. Leading the way for the Tigers were Conner Whan with a 4th place finish (17:28) and Alan Denadel 8th (17:37). Burlington-Edison\'s Kyle Barkdull was 3rd in the JV race (17:18).
