DAYTON - Waitsburg's Maya Garcia ran third in a field of 26 girls here Tuesday afternoon, leading the Cardinals to a third-place finish in a small-school cross country meet.
Garcia was clocked in 19 minutes, 57 seconds, over the 3.09-mile course. She trailed only a pair of Asotin runners, Sigourney Gundy, who finished first in 19:27, and Jessi Johnson, who ran 19:33 for the second spot.
Asotin won the girls team championship with 25 points, followed by Tri-Cities Prep 52, Waitsburg 68 and Pomeroy 80. Host Dayton didn't have a complete team.
