Alex impressed me back when she was a freshman. I knew we were in trouble when I watched this very tall freshman running down our girls like a gangly deer in freezing conditions at Seckman High School. Alex is still tall and yes very fast. Maturity has done her wonders as she returns as one of our state's best athletes in a number of events.

Alex what made you decide to do track and field?

I was a competitive tennis player then I developed an elbow injury and had to take a break from tennis. I wanted to find a way to keep in shape so I started doing track and I ended up loving it. Track has been a great outlet for me mentally and physically...something that is important for me.

When did you know you could do something special?
I wouldn't necessarily say I'm something special but I would say that I'm lucky to get the opportunity to compete. People always told me I was fast and athletic but I think I started believing in myself when I got a silver medal at the AAU ...
