The boys and girls mile often get all the hubbub, but if we're being practical, the 1600m should get all the fanfare in May during state championship meets.

It's the distance runners are tested at year after year.

Click on the slideshow to see the top 250 results in the 1600m over the last decade in both the boys and girls fields across the country.

Some times will be converted from miles, such as Grand Blanc (MI) High's Grant Fisher's No. 1 time of 3:57.93 at the Nike Festival of Miles in 2015, which was converted on the track at the time it was contested. Fisher ultimately broke 4-minutes by going 3:59.38, but his converted 1600m time was 3:57.93 -- the only 1600m time over the last decade (within our database) that's been achieved.

Thirty-five boys have run 4:05 or faster since 2007 at the distance.

And in the girls field, Camas (Wa.) High's Alexa Efraimson yielded a time of 4:33.29 and 44 girls have been able to break 4:45 in the 1600 over that span.
