Since the first-ever Nike Cross Nationals, the Northwest Region has produced five individual champions and four team champions. It's one of just two regions to have both a boys' and girls' individual and team champion.

This year, some of the nation's elite distance runners will be battling it out on the Eagle Island XC Course in Boise, Idaho. 

Leading the way for the individual race are Emily Wisniewski and Sophia Rodriguez

The junior from Crescent Valley (OR) has run 16:27.2, which is the second-fastest time in the country this fall. Rodriguez, the freshman phenom from Mercer Island (WA), sits 10th in the country and is the top freshman in the country.
