UIL 6A Girls 4x400m Relay
The final event of the 2024 UIL 6A Girls State meet turned into a head-to-head contest between Humble Summer Creek and Alvin Shadow Creek in the 4x400m relay.
Shadow Creek held the lead through the first three laps thanks to strong legs by Mackenzie Collins and Tiffany Mugubi for the first two laps as the hit the midway point in 1:49.01. Summer Creek stayed close hitting the 800m in 1:50.23 but still dropped another second to Shadow Creek on the third leg.
However, Brooke Lloyd dropped the hammer on the final lap for Summer Creek. She blazed her way to a 52.22 quarter-mile and ran down Shadow Creek on the home stretch. Lloyd crossed the finish line in 3:39.74 for Summer Creek to give them the gold medal. Shadow Creek was right behind them in 3:40.61.
Duncanville came through in third place with a time of 3:43.58, but they were able to celebrate the overall team title with 68 total points.
