With cross country creeping closer, it's time to reflect on last year's competition and see which first-year high schoolers made names for themselves. 

Here are the top rising sophomore girls in the 5K and 3,200m. All results are from their performances over the 2023 cross country season and this outdoor season. 

Sophia Rodriguez leads off the Class of 2027 with the fastest combined time of 27:00.68. Rodriguez also has the fastest individual times in both events. 

The Washington state champion -- and Pennsylvania native -- had her best performance of the cross season in the 5K at The Mook XC Invite. Rodriguez finished first in 16:49.78. 

The Mercer Island High School freshman also secured a career best 3,200m time of 10:10.90 at the Arcadia Invitational.
