2A Girls State Meet Day 1: Kirkwood 162-10 Javelin

Going into today’s State Meet at Mt. Tahoma H.S., Christine Kirkwood from Othello had a Javelin PR of 153-10, which she threw at the Pasco Invite but was hoping for more. She had been chasing her older sister Courtney’s records throughout her career but not anymore.  On Christine’s second throw in prelims she tossed 162-10 setting a new Washington All-Time best. The previous best was Courtney with a throw of 160-10. Christine was surprised at the mark saying “I knew it was a good throw but not over 160-0 it felt weird coming out of my hand but had some torque on it.” When asked about breaking her sister’s record she said “Courtney has been cheering me on all season.”  Being only a junior, next year she wants to go after the national record of 172-8 held by Rachel of Yukovich from Newberg Oregon.  Courtney Fairhart from Eatonville was second with a throw of 138-0 and Pullman’s Nina moved from sixth to third on her final throw of 124-5, getting her goal of placing in the top 3.

Allison Cutting from Sequim pulled away from Kingston’s Marina Roberts in the final laps to win the 3200 in 11:04.52.
