World Youth Games - Day 2

Action is still going on but there are some early results from France.  In the Men’s Shot Put final Jack Gill of New Zealand won the event as expected.   His throw of 24.35 was by far the best.  Tyler Schultz and Braheme Days, both from the US, earned second and third with marks of 20.35 & 20.14.    The US had no representative in the final of the men’s Javelin, which was claimed by Carrlos Verlando of Venezuela with 53.85.

Justin Fondren of the US was one of eleven qualifiers in the high jump and all had leaps of 2.03.   The finals should be interesting.   The semi-finals in the guys’ 800 Meters was a disappointment, because no one from the US went onward.   The top two runners from each of three heats moved on to the finals along with the next two fastest times.  Just missing the final was Cameron Thornton of the US, who placed third in his heat and had the third fastest time of those not in the first two finishers.   Thornton ran 1:49.64.  Right behind him with fourth in his heat & fourth in time was Canada’s Tyler Smith who ran 1:49.67.

Arman Hall led all qualifiers in the 400 Meter run with his time of 46.70 in the first heat.    Neji Glass of the US placed third in his heat with 47.42 but failed to qualify, while Brandon Rostall of Canada finished fourth in his heat.  His time of 47.26 will make it to the finals.

America will have two runners challenging in the 100M Hurdles and Trinity Wilson was the fastest qualifier with a  13.37 clocking.   Kendall Williams, also from the US, qualified by winning her heat with a time of 13.70, which was the fourth fastest time overall in the event.

Jennifer Madu was one of the headliners in the day’s later action, when she lead a US sweep of the top two places in the 100 Meter Dash.   Her time of 11.57 edged her team mate Myasia Jacobs by four-hundredths of a second.  Christania Williams of Jamaica finished third with 11.63.   Trinity Wilson added gold for America in the 100 M Hurdles with her 13.11 clocking, as Kendel Williams of the US added a third place medal with 13.28.

Haley Crouser of Oregon placed fourth in the Women’s Javelin with a throw of 51.97.   Chritin Hussong of German won the event with 59.74.   Ronald Darby of the US placed fourth in the Men’s 100 Meter Finals, when he ran 10.61.  The event was won by O’Dell Todd of Jamaica, who ran 10.51.   Kazuma Oseto of Japan took second with 10.52 & Michael-Meba Zeze of France was third (10.57).

Both American’s in the 400 Meter Run moved on to the finals after placing second in their respective heats.  Robin Reynolds was clocked in 53.21 & Kendall Baisden was timed in 53.32.  Canada’s Christian Brennan won the third heat with 53.15 and will challenge the US duo in the finals.
