Day one action in the Field events included the 3A Girls High Jump, which was won by Molly Grager of Juanita. She jumped 5-04, which gave her a margin over a number of girls who cleared 5-02. Melissa Merrill of Hanford secured second due to fewer misses, while Kiana Davis of Kelso claimed third in a jump-off with Andrea Stapleton of Kamiakin & Danae Lee of Hudson’s Bay.
Jamie Weisner of Clarkston sent the Javelin 146-09, which gave her a good margin of victory over the rest of the field. Erika Wilson of Selah placed second with a heave of 119-11 and Skylar Cannon of Lakewood was right behind with 118-10.
The girls’ Triple Jump went to Courtney Just of Gig Harbor, who leaped 39-04. Nhautrey Brown of Garfield was alone in second with 38-01 and Kelly Cronic of Curtis placed third with 37-02. Ali Rodseth, Kira Perkins & Jessica Ludwig placed fourth through sixth respectively with each being credited with versions of 36 & change.
The Boys’ 2A Long Jump crown went to Cameron Braithwaite of Port Angeles, who jumped 22-05. There was some confusion, as it appeared that Ephrata’s Christian Nuckolls had flown over twenty-four but then it apparently was disallowed. Nuckolls was understandably in tears right after the event. Third place went to Anthony Nanango of Foster with 21-07.
The barrier of sixty was breeched by Dennis Christensen of Richland, who also claimed a state 4A Shot Put title. Jack Scheideman of Roosevelt earned second with 58-03 and Casey Campbell of Lake Stevens was third with 56-06. Gino Bresolin of Eastlake was close behind with 55-02.
Stanwood’s Kaci Jones edged Alyx Toeina of Kentwood 131-10 to 130-09 in the Discus throw. Alexis Sarver of Arlington finished third in 4A with 128-07 and Kelsie Forcier of South Kitsap threw 127-06 , which was good for fourth.
