Hightower & Novy Win National Titles

With the US Junior Olympic Meet being held on the East Coast relatively few Northwest athletes have participated, yet the few, who have made the trek to Morgan State in Baltimore, have made waves.   Tera Novy of Montesano High in Washington won the Discus event for Young Women with a toss of 156-09.   Dakarai Hightower, representing the Flying AJ’s after his graduation from Curtis High School , dominated the High Jump with a leap of 7-03, which easily captured the crown in the Youth Men’s Division.

Two-time Oregon 6A champion Rachel Proteau placed fourth in the High Jump after clearing 5-07.  The event was won by Emily Godwin with 5-08 leaving three jumpers just behind at 5-07.  The West Albany star lost in a jump-off for third place.  Still it is a fine placement for Proteau, who has only completed her junior year.

Marcus Chambers is still alive in both the 200 Meters and the 400 Meters & his 46.08 clocking was the best time in the semi-finals.   For those wondering both Haley Crouser of Gresham, Oregon & Sean Keller of Heritage High in Washington both passed on the meet and will compete in Finland instead.   Given the winning distances both young throwers would have made plenty of noise to state it mildly.
