The Skyview boys and girls track and field teams took big steps toward claiming in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League dual-meet title with victories over Heritage on Tuesday.
The Skyview boys edged Heritage 73-72, while the Storm girls posted a 89-61 win over the Timberwolves.
If the Skyview boys can wrap up an unbeaten league season next week against Mountain View, the Storm will snap Heritage\'s three-year streak of 4A GSHL dual-meet titles.
Chris Michels and Jeff Long won two events each as Skyview held off Heritage, which won the last event of the meet -- the 1,600-meter relay -- to cut Skyview\'s lead to one point.
Michels won the 100 meters in 11.08 seconds and the 400 in 49.65. Long won the 800 in 2:02.41 and the 1,600 in 4:36.47.
The Skyview girls had an easier time with their win as Stephanie den Hartigh, Jennifer Pike and Jasmine Kelly each posted a pair of event wins.
Den Hartigh won the 100 (12.56) and 400 (1:01.41). Pike won the 100 hurdles (15.47) and 300 hurdles (48.32). And Kelly won the high jump (5-4) and set a new area best this season in the pole vault with a mark of 10-1.
