KIRKLAND — Tiffany Tibbot is turning up the heat in the sprints.
On a cold, wet day at the Lake Washington Invitational, the Skyline sophomore sizzled in the 100 and 200 meters and was part of the victorious 400 and 1,600 relays.
Her win in the 100 came over Lake Washington\'s Meagan Ferguson, running a 12.28 to Ferguson\'s 12.44 seconds.
\"I was really fighting to get that,\" Tibbot said of her win. \"It was a really good race.\"
Ferguson is still on the mend from knee surgery she had seven months ago and estimates she\'s at about 85 percent, but didn\'t want to make excuses.
\"If I lose, I lose,\" she said.
Skyline also won the 800 relay and captured the team title in the meet, the largest all-girls invitational in the Northwest, piling up 58 points. Richland was second with 48 and Cascade of Everett third with 38.
Eastlake\'s Jessica Pixler won the 1,500 and 800 in contrasting styles. She ran away with the 1,500, beating Jane Larson of Cedar Park Christian of Bothell by nearly five seconds. In the 800, she stormed from behind to nip Everett\'s Cori Moore and Bellingham\'s Becca Friday.
\"I saw them coming down the stretch and said, \'I\'ll try to catch them,\' \" Pixler said.
Whitney Hooks of Cascade and Devin Brooks of Holy Names didn\'t get the records they were aiming for, but both successfully defended titles.
Hooks, a senior, swept the shot put for the fourth straight year, this time with a mark of 45 feet, 4-½ inches. She had hoped to better the shot record of 46-3 she set as a sophomore. She appeared to do exactly that with two efforts that appeared to be better than 48 feet, but she scratched on both.
\"I just couldn\'t save them,\" Hooks said.
Not so in the discus, where she threw 123-6 to finish second after winning titles in 2004 and \'05. Inglemoor\'s Elisa Bryant won with 127-6 after finishing second in the shot with a personal-best 40-5-¼.
Brooks, a junior, won her third 100 hurdles title in 14.40 seconds, just off the meet record of 14.34.
The wet weather didn\'t bother Kentridge triple-jumper Lindsey Fleishman, who sailed 37-1-¼ — a personal best by nearly three feet — to top a star-studded field. Megan Paulson of Bellevue Christian was second at 36-7 ¾, another personal best. Highline\'s Nkeiru Ugwoaba, the two-time defending state champion in Class 3A, settled for third at 36-3-½.
Jenna Marshall of Auburn Riverside and Lisa Galbraith of Wenatchee both cleared 10-6 in the pole vault, but Marshall won on fewer misses.
Shorewood\'s Lauren Sego topped the javelin field with a toss of 129-10.
In the 300 hurdles, Caitlin Bonney of Lynnwood won by nearly a second in 45.24.
Katie Gross from Cascade of Everett won the long jump at 16-10 ½.
