Distance runners boost Everett
The Seagulls score 31 of 33 possible points in three distance races to win the Everett School District meet.

EVERETT - The Everett boys track team out-distanced the competition in the Everett School District Championships Friday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The Everett distance runners scored 31 of 33 possible points in three events to lead the Seagulls to the first-place finish. Everett scored 97 points followed by Cascade with 67 and Jackson with 18.

Everett captured a 1-2-3 finish in the 1,600-meter race and the 3,200 events. The Seagulls had a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 800 and the javelin.

In the featured 1,600, Everett\'s Jeff Helmer, Alex Stanovsky and Matt Kaftanski finished within three seconds of each other and 14.4 seconds ahead of the fourth-place finisher.

Helmer and Kaftanski paced sophomore Arian Anderson to a victory and a 4A District 1 qualifying time in the 3,200.

Stanovsky won the 800 followed by teammates John Hoof, Kaftanski and Keith Bjella, who is back from a foot injury.

\"It was impressive to see what they did out there,\" Everett coach Doug Hall said of the distance runners. \"They really stepped up and had some fun out there today.\"

According to Hall, Everett\'s inspirational leader, Rendel Jones, won the long and triple jumps \"He takes his competition really seriously and motivates the others to do their best\"

Everett\'s javelin throwers all had throws over 158 feet to post a 1-2-3-4 finish. Andrew Stiger won the event with a throw of 184 feet, and 11 inches. Parker Burns, Brad Good and Conor O\'Reilly followed for the Everett sweep.

Spencer Warfield won both the discus and shot put.

Cascade\'s Austin Curran won the 100 and 200 and Chris Hilliard captured the 110 hurdles and won the high jump with a 6-foot leap.

Jackson\'s Ali Alhussaini captured the 300 hurdles for Jackson\'s lone victory.

Edmonds District Meet: At Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace finished with three double-winners - Matt Beeninga (800- and 1,600-meters), Eric Doyle (110 and 300 hurdles) and Josh Carey (shot put and discus) en route to the Wesco South victory. Tim Carrithers won three events (the 100 dash, the long jump and the triple jump) to pace Lynnwood to a second-place finish.

Battle of Shoreline: At Shoreline, Ikenne Acholonu was a triple-winner - taking the triple jump and 110- and 300-meter hurdles - to lead Shorecrest to 126 points and the non-league victory. The Scots\' Jesse Hoffman was also a multiple winner, placing first in the 100 and 200 dash events. King\'s Michael Davis, the 2A state record holder in the javelin, won his event and announced his intention to compete in the javelin and decathlon for Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.

Edmonds-Woodway\'s Kate Southcote-Want took the 1,600 and 3,200 runs to pace the Warriors to a third-place finish.
