Tri-Cities Prep freshman wins BML district meet

By the Herald staff POMEROY -- Tri-Cities Prep freshman Carina Leon won the Blue Mountain district meet, beating Waitsburg freshman Maya Garcia by 9 seconds to become the first Prep runner to qualify for state. Leon finished the 5-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 56 seconds. Five area runners qualified for next week\'s 2B-1B state meet in Pasco, while Prep freshman Samuel Mota-Martinez narrowly missed a spot in the boys race, finishing 12 seconds back of the final berth in sixth place.
