Coaches,

After listening to coaches in the area, we believed that there was a big gap in regards to opportunities for underclassmen. In order to meet this need, Rogers and Emerald Ridge High Schools partnered to put on an athlete-friendly meet, at a great facility, so that our underclassmen can compete against other young athletes. It was a great success last year, and we are excited to launch the Second Annual South Sound Frosh/Soph Preview. With the number of large programs in the area, we believe that this will be a great opportunity for freshmen to compete against other freshmen, and for sophomores to compete against other sophomores, so that both groups can see success compared to athletes at a comparable age. This meet will be held on Saturday, March 28th.

In order to make this meet possible, we are looking for eight to sixteen schools that are excited about providing opportunities for their underclassmen. By allowing two freshmen and two sophomore entries per event, per gender, we believe that this early season meet will give access and competition to a group of athletes that need a platform to compete against the best at their grade level.

Sparks Stadium, located in beautiful downtown Puyallup, is an immaculate facility that hosts PLU home football games, and WIAA state soccer and football. It provides ample space for teams and spectators under covered stands, plenty of parking, and the bathroom facilities to match (a rarity in the track invite world).

We would love for you to consider this meet when planning your spring track schedule. We will continue to accept teams until we have a maximum of 16 teams; confirm as soon as possible to secure your spot.

Best,

Rogers & Emerald Ridge Track Staff

Admission: $5 adults; $3 seniors/children 12 & under

Entries: All entries are due on athletic.net by 8:00PM on Wednesday, March 25th. Because it is early in the season and this meet includes athletes that may not have marks, we will accept override times/marks, so please use your professional judgment in determining an athletes mark in an event. We will not accept any changes on the day of the meet.

Timing: Running events will be timed by Gold Medal Timing (Shelton Timing Crew)

Running Events: All sprint and relay races will be seeded by grade level and times (slowest to fastest per grade). Freshmen will run first, followed by sophomores. In the 800 meters, we will have one heat per grade level, two athletes per lane, the fastest of the two athletes on the inside of the lane (subject to change based on field size). The 1600 and 3200 will have one race per gender, using a double waterfall start (subject to change based on field size). Men will run first, followed by women.

Relays: You may enter one freshmen and one sophomore relay team. If you are unable to field two complete teams, you can run a single team that combines freshmen and sophomores, but you must enter them in the sophomore section. We will ask that coaches from each school help to monitor the relay exchanges - we will explain this breakdown at the coaches meeting.

Field Events: All flights will be seeded by grade and distance (farthest flight to shortest); in the high jump and pole vault we will combine grade levels. 3 attempts for each athlete, no finals. In all field and running events, freshmen will run/throw/jump first, followed by sophomores.

Shot Put: Men First, Followed by Women (Second pit will serve as warm-up area)

Discus: Women First, Followed by Men

Javelin: Men First, Followed by Women

Womens Long & Triple Jump (West Pit): Women will long jump first, followed by the triple jump

Mens Long & Triple Jump (East Pit): Men will triple jump first, followed by the long jump

High Jump: Will combine freshmen/sophomores, opening height for HJ (3'8/4'8), scoring will be separated based on grade level. Womens High Jump will start at 10:00AM.

Pole Vault: We are fairly certain that we will be able to offer the pole vault, on a raised runway, on the infield.

Awards: Medals will be awarded to the top-3 athletes for each grade level, in each event. Awards can be picked up at the table below the home grandstands.

Games Committee: Will consist of coaches from Rogers and Emerald Ridge High Schools.
