Quinton Decker set another record last week while competing for the Port Townsend High School cross-country team. It's his third course record this season.

The junior set a fast pace (15:28) Oct. 10 on Sequim's Dungeness Spit course, helping PTHS defeat the Sequim varsity boys for the first time in about 10 years. Frosh Bereket Piatt placed third (15:40).

Coach Kevin Sanford's club competes in the Olympic League meet at 4 p.m. Thursday at Dungeness Golf Course. The Port Townsend girls are working to improve their course times every week in preparation for league finals.

Last Wednesday, the PT boys scored 28 points to 32 for Port Angeles and 56 for Sequim.

The boys' junior varsity race was exciting as well, with Jake DeBerry leading nearly the entire race and finishing second (18:26.)

The Port Townsend cross country team had a great season-opening meet Sept. 8 at the Bellarmine Invitational against competition from 3A and 4A schools.

Bereket Piatt won the two-mile freshman-only race with a time of 10:45. Junior Quinton Decker placed eighth in the varsity race with a personal best time of 10:13.

"This was a good ice breaker for the new runners," said coach Kevin Sanford.
