Chinchar, Bryant win at Arcadia
Two local athletes won their respective events Saturday at the 40th Arcadia Invitational track-and-field meet in Southern California.
Michael Chinchar, a senior from Kentwood, won the men's mile with a time of 4 minutes, 9.67 seconds, while Elisa Bryant, an Inglemoor senior, won the girls discus with a throw of 150 feet, 3 inches. Bryant also placed 13th in the shot put (38 feet). Garfield's Stephone Jordan won section two of the boys 110 hurdles in 14.90 seconds. He also won the 300 hurdles seeded event with a 37.96.
The Arcadia Invitational is considered the strongest in-season invitational in the country. This year's invitational had an estimated 3,500 athletes from 27 states
Few other local athletes placed in the top 10 in their respective events. Holy Names' Devin Brooks ran a 14.47 in the women's 100-meter hurdles, good for fourth.
