Oregon & Washington Connection at Pan Am Juniors

The meet held in Florida this year from July 22 until the 24th featured a number of young athletes with ties to Oregon & Washington.

Parker Stinson, who recently completed his freshman year at the University of Oregon, all but over-whelmed his competition in the 10K winning  by around fifty seconds.  His time was an impressive 30:37.38.

Rachel Proteau of Salem just finished her sophomore year in high school but one would never know it from the results.   She took fifth in the High Jump with a mark of 5-08.50.   She made rapid improvement late in the season and only qualified for US Nationals late in the campaign.  Still her clearance was not all that far off the winning effort of Shanay Briscoe, a freshman at the University of Texas, who won with 6-00.

J J Juilfs of Sheldon spent a good deal of time on the shelf due to injury and, although the  weather did not aid his cause last week, he still earned a silver medal.   He cleared 16-8.75.   J J will compete for the University of Washington soon as a freshman.

Sean Keller of Heritage High in Vancouver still has a year to go before he moves on to the college ranks.   He placed sixth in the Javelin with 228-6 and was the top American.    Greg Skipper, a recent graduate of Oregon City High School who will compete next for the University of Oregon, earned fourth in the Hammer with a toss of 207-06.

Allison Woodward is a former State tennis champion from Wisconsin, who does not have a great deal of running experience, yet she qualified for Foot Locker last fall in her first attempt.  Allison placed second in the 3K, as part of a US medal sweep behind Kayla Beattie with her time of 9:31.83.  Ms. Woodward will be competing for U Oregon next fall.
