Gardner and Knight place in top 5in Scotland

   Kirubel Erassa won the Great Edinburgh Cross Country race, which featured teams from the United States, Great Britain and Europe.  His winning time for the 6K course was 19:56.   Kieron Clements and mark Shaw of Great Britain placed second and third and Eddie Owens ran 20:09 to place fourth for the American team.   Spokane’s Andrew Gardner finished fifth overall and was the third American after finishing behind collegiate runner Eddie Owens.  USA colegiate runners Mike Brajdic & Thomas Curtin came in 7th & 8th respectively and Nathan Weitz, who fell on the last hill, followed in eleventh for the USA in 20:33.   It is worthy of noting that Gardner & Weitz were the only preps on the Junior men's team, that represented America & there were 71 runners in the race.   

    

      Emilia Gorfecka of Great Britain, who ran 14:48, won the race among the young ladies but was followed by a trio of American runners.  Erin Finn of Michigan, who charged to the lead in last month’s Foot Locker national championship, led the way early in this race before giving way to the Brit.  Still the game Finn finished seventh in 15:30.   Stanford’s Aisling Cuffe, the 2010 Foot Locker champion, led the US team with her second place effort of 15:09.   Molly Seidel of Wisconsin, the current Foot Locker champion, claimed third for the US team in 15:15 and Katie Knight, the Washington 4A champion & State course record-holder,   added a fourth place finish.   American collegian Jessica Jackson placed sixth for the US out of 51 finishers.

     The American Junior women won the team race with a low of fifteen points, while Britain had 27.   The European team was a distant third with 62.    The US junior men also were victorious with a low of 16 points to top Great Britain’s 26.  The Europeans were third with 48.
