UW Indoor Invitational

Maddie Meyers of The Northwest School in Seattle but running unattached competed against a field of collegiate runners and turned in an impressive 10:02 clocking.   Maddie placed fifth overall in a large field but more importantly has moved her to the #3 clocking in the nation.

Tatum Taylor, competing for the Seattle Speed, flew through the 60 Meter Dash in brisk 6.79.   His time not only topped a field of collegians but appears to be the fastest time in the nation for this indoor season.   Taylor attends O ’Dea High School in Seattle.  Damian Greene of Sammamish clocked 7.06 competing for the Seattle Express.

Hannah Cunliffe, who set the freshman record on the Dempsey track last year, placed fifth in the women’s 60M.   The home-schooled runner, who competes for the Seattle Speed, clocked 7.61, which is one of the better times in the US so far this season.    The Seattle Express had a number of runners in the event including Michelle Stoltz (Renton) 8.06, Alexis Ford (Nathan Hale) 8.40 and Whitney Diggs (Highline) 8.17.

The 200 meter Dash was run on Friday and Ford ran that in 26.69.   Whitney Diggs added a fine 25.70 in the event.    Running against collegiate men Byron Howell ran 22.41.  The Garfield runner competed for the Seattle Express.

Kris Tollefson of West Seattle High ran a fine 58.5 in the 400 Meter Run.  She competed for the Express.

The men’s 3K saw two runners achieve NCAA qualifiers of better than 7:52, as Cameron Levins of Southern Utah won the event in 7:48.25.  Chris Thompson of the Oregon Track Club placed second and then Miles Batty of BYU came in third with 7:49.    The women’s 3K saw Sally Kipyego race to an 8:47 but Katie Flood of Washington came home second in 8:55, which was well ahead of the qualifier of 9:10.

The closest event of the day was the women’s Mile, which saw Geena Gall of OTC top Lauren Johnson of Nike.  There was scant little to separate them at the end, as they were credited with marks of 4:34.79 & 4:34.80.  Katie Palmer of BYU finished third with 4:39 only two seconds off of the needed time for the NCAA.

Fans always still seem to get a thrill out of a sub four minute mile and Andrew Bumbalough did his part to make things memorable with his 3:58 clocking.  Matt Tegenkamp followed with 4:03.
