Day 1 Action for US in World Youth Games

      The World Youth Games began today in France and a number of Americans made their presence felt.   Because it was the first day of competition there were few finals but American Ethan Cochran placed second in the Young Men’s Discus with a mark of 61.37.   Jamaica’s Fedrick Dacres won the event with 67.05.   The Young Ladies’ Shot was claimed by  Tianquian Guo of China who threw 15>24, while America’s Torie Owers placed fifth with 14:44.

   In prelims of the 100 Hurdles Trinity Wilson (13.59) & Kendell Williams (13.60) of the US both won their heats and also registered the top two times.   In the 400 meter Hurdles both Americans qualified.

Nnenya Hailey won her heat  with 58.71, while Amber Bryant-Brock ran 61.13 to win her heat, so both advanced.  

      Hannah Meiers (4:25.28( & Cami Chapus (4:22.69) both moved on in the 1500 as they placed third & sixth in their separate heats respectively.    Jonathan Russell  ran 51.94 to  qualify in the 400 Meter Hurdles.
