Anthony Tomsich loved running four times around the track at West Valley High School. He didn\'t care much for circling it 12 1/2 times when first attempting that at Western Washington University. Running 5,000 meters indoors has grown on the 2005 West Valley grad, however.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Four of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference cross country teams begin their 2006 schedules Saturday in meets at Fort Steilacoom, Walla Walla and Forest Grove, Ore. The Alaska Nanooks and Saint Martin\'s make their debuts at the Puget Sound Open in Fort Steilacoom, while Northwest Nazarene travels to Walla Walla to compete in the Whitman Invitational and Western Oregon debuts at the Pacific Boxer Rebellion. Seattle University, Seattle Pacific and Western Washington open their seasons a week later at the Emerald City Invitational at Woodland Park in Seattle, while Central Washington debuts in the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Portland. Alaska Anchorage doesn\'t open its season until Sept. 16 when it will compete in the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park in Seattle.
THIS WEEK: The Washington State University men\'s and women\'s cross country teams open it\'s seasons Friday at the Cross Country Jamboree hosted by the University of Idaho in Moscow...meet takes place at the University of Idaho Golf Course...women will race on a 4,000m course beginning at 6 p.m. and the men will run a four-mile course with the race slated to start at 6:40 p.m.

March 11, 2006 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Julie Pickler was the runner-up in the women\'s pentathlon, earning All-America honors during the final day of competition at the NCAA Division I Men\'s and Women\'s Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the University of Arkansas campus.
Roberts opens indoor season with provisional qualifying mark in women\'s pole vault Western\'s Andrea (Kreft) Roberts reached the NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying standard, clearing a personal-best 11-8 1/2 to win the women\'s pole vault at the first University of Washington Indoor Track and Field Open meet Sunday at Dempsey Center. Roberts was one of three event winners for the Vikings. Tyler Thornbrue took the men\'s pole vault with a mark of 14-11 and Dustin Wilson won the men\'s 60 meter hurdles in 8.57 seconds.
