They may have scored fewer points than some of their competitors, but it seems unlikely anyone got more PR than the Port Townsend boys and girls track teams did at two away meets April 9 and 11.

PR, in PT track nomenclature, stands for "personal record." There was plenty of it to go around last week - in all, PT athletes set 52 personal records during the two meets.

Against Bremerton and Port Angeles in Bremerton last Wednesday, the Port Townsend girls posted 39 points to place third. Port Angeles took first with 102 points. Host Bremerton was second with 48.

The Port Townsend High School boys' cross country team placed sixth at the state 2A meet Nov. 3 in Pasco. Junior Quinton Decker was fifth individually (16:31), and freshman Bereket Piatt was 17th (17:11).

Justin Rose of Colville won the 3.1-mile race (16:02), and Abdi Gire of Foster High - who edged Decker for the West Central District title - was second at state (16:19).

The sixth-place finish was the highest coach Kevin Sanford has achieved with a boys' team in his 13 years of coaching, he said. The boys' team was seventh in 2005 and 2003. PTHS girls placed second in 2004 and fourth in 2003.

Granger, who competed for Port Townsend High School in cross-country last fall, is now a member of the Chimacum High School track team. A home-school student who lives in the Chimacum School District, Granger ran cross-country for Port Townsend during her freshman and sophomore years but was briefly declared ineligible by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association to run for PTHS during the post-season last fall as a junior. Granger was told she would have to represent her home district of Chimacum instead, and she wore blue as the lone CHS entry for the league championship meet. However, the WIAA reversed its decision days later, agreeing with PTHS Athletic Director Russ Hickman
