PASCO -- Day 1 of the Class 3A/4A state track championships at Edgar Brown Stadium was far from uneventful, but at the same time, there were no big upsets or top contenders who failed to advance.

"For the most part, things seemed to go as planned for the top teams," Skyline coach Dawn Geiser said. "Running back-to-back days is going to be a challenge for a lot of the athletes. Saturday is going to be survival of the fittest."

All of the preliminary running events were completed Friday, as well as the 3A and 4A boys' and girls' 3,200-meter finals.

PASCO -- Moments after Garfield senior Bianca Greene crossed the finish line to give the Bulldogs the 4A 800-meter relay championship, she took off her shoes, grabbed several cups of water and doused her toes.

"My feet are burning," Greene said. "It's getting real hot on the track."

Actually, it was Greene who was burning up the track on day two of the 3A/4A state track and field championships as she won the Class 4A 100 (12.01), the 200 (24.20) and ran the final leg of the Bulldogs winning 800 relay team (1:41.54).

Her time in the 200 was the seventh fastest in state history.

Greene's effort helped the Bulldogs score 40 team points, good enough o put them in a tie for third with Hanford.

PASCO -- Mount Rainier senior Ryan Prentice said he isn't close to being in top running shape this season because injuries have cut his training short the past month. What Prentice wasn't short on was his will to win as he captured the 3A boy's cross-country title at the Sun Willows course in Pasco.

Prentice covered the 3.1-mile course in 16:01, holding off junior Andrew Kimpel of North Central to win by four seconds.

"As I got closer to the finish I thought everybody was sneaking up on me," Prentice said. "I looked back with about 100 yards and saw I had a solid lead, but I ran the rest of the race like someone was two seconds ahead of me."

The North Central boys, one of the top teams in the nation, took the 3A team title with 36 team points. Seattle Prep took second with 110 points.

With his steely stare and chiseled frame, there\'s an air of athletic intimidation surrounding senior Attrail Snipes of Rainier Beach. If anyone fits the description of a person who lets his actions speak louder than his words, it\'s Snipes. He learned from an early age that staying quiet kept him out of the public eye and free of explaining his personal situation, one so foreign to most kids that it\'s nearly impossible to relate to.

Girls Track MVP: Jessica Pixler, Eastlake Michael Mclaughlin Jun 16, 2006

By MICHAEL MCLAUGHLIN It\'s easy to say Eastlake senior Jessica Pixler\'s running talent comes from her parents, as both Jeff and Nancy Pixler ran track or cross country at the University of Colorado. Their daughter displayed the ability to do both sports this past year, taking second at the 4A state cross country meet last fall and winning the 800 meters this spring at the 4A state track meet.
