What some may consider a success, Lateashea Currie calls a disappointment. In her first season out for the Heritage track and field team, Currie placed third in the 100-meter and sixth in the 200-meter at last year’s state meet as a junior.
But it was not good enough. Not for Currie, anyway.
She was disapointed because her health was not 100 percent when she was competing at state in the Tri-Cities.
“I just wasn’t used to that weather,” Currie said. “I thought I was going to pass out. The whole time I was up there, I just wasn’t feeling good.”
But the senior feels good about this year. Very good.

The image from last year’s state final springs from Kinsley Ojukwu’s memory every time he runs.
He was only a couple strides from capturing the 4A state 100-meter dash title as a freshman at Evergreen. Then his teammate, senior Ryan Hamilton, blew past him at the final moment, crying out “No, Kinsley!” as he snatched the title away by two-hundredths of a second.
Priscilla Timmons, Skyview girls cross country, finished in the top three in the Division 2 race at the Nike Pre-National Invitational at Portland Meadows, helping the Storm girls finish second in the team standings. Camas placed sixth and Heritage was seventh.
Papermakers at Pre-Nats
Continuing their pursuit for bigger challenges, the Camas Papermakers went to the Nike Pre-Nationals meet at Portland Meadows and raced with the big boys.
